Engagement Photoshoot at Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross

Posted on Posted onNovember 5, 2025July 25, 2026By Vanessa Sterling

I had the absolute joy of capturing one of the most romantic engagement shoots at Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross, London. The love was real, and the transformation of my couple from shy and nervous to relaxed and radiant made my day.

The groom-to-be was super shy and told me early on that he hates being in front of the camera. I could tell as he was nervous, fidgeting, and even a little sweaty at the start (we’ve all been there!). On the other hand, his fiancée was totally in her element. She was confident, camera-ready, and giving full model energy. She would perfect if she pursued modelling.

But here’s the best part, by the end of the session, they were laughing, relaxed, and completely wrapped up in each other’s arms. Their love story unfolded naturally in front of my lens, and every shot was full of romance and love – just look at them!

Exploring the Charm of Coal Drops Yard

Our first stop was the beautiful stairways of Coal Drops Yard, where we captured playful, cinematic moments – including some fun Titanic-inspired poses and those Instagram-famous lift shots (because yes, they always look incredible on the feed! 😉).

From there, we wandered to a cozy spot for a few more candid portraits before heading to our final location… the striking industrial structure where old Victorian gas holders once stood. It added such a dramatic and historic backdrop to their romantic moments, and it quickly became the groom’s favourite spot of the day.

💡 Fun fact: Coal Drops Yard was originally built in the 1850s as a hub for receiving and storing coal arriving by train. Today, it’s transformed into one of London’s most vibrant cultural and shopping districts. It blends its rich industrial past with modern architecture and charm. It’s a dream location for engagement shoots!

Why Engagement Shoots Are Worth It

I was over the moon to receive a heartfelt review from the groom afterwards. It’s proof that stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to unforgettable memories and beautiful photos!

If you’re planning an engagement shoot in London or Jamaica, I’d love to capture your story. And if your wedding is in Jamaica, we can even plan your engagement session a few days before the big day for a truly special experience.
